ERG Comide Hydromet Feasibility Study (FS) Project - Lead Mine Planning Engineer
(Copper/ Cobalt)
A complex project with 10 different open pits, which made it a very complex project logistically. The Copper was the main product focussed on initially, but cobalt turned out to add more value to the bottom line and the product focus shifted. A substantial amount of value increase (NPV upliftment) was gained by improving the sequence in which the pits were mined over the Life of Mine. Reducing the haulage distances for ore to plant and for the waste also contributed to the value of the project.
Various projects for Kudumane Manganese Resources (KMR) - Project Manager

Assisted the client with various strategic and other projects that enabled the client to identify ways in which they would be able to extend the life of their assets (and increase value/NPV), which would enable them to position themselves as a leader in the industry (among the competing companies in the area). Previous projects completed for KMR include: Life of Mine (LOM) Update, LOM Compliance Review, Strategic Assistance to CEO of KMR and High-Level Economic Evaluation.
Lehating Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) - Owner’s Team Mining Engineering Lead

Managed mining sub-consultants to ensure that the project is delivered on time, at the required level of accuracy and within budget. The aim of the BFS was to ensure that the owner of the mining lease would be able to raise the required funds to develop the mine or sell the mine to potential buyers.
QKR Navachab Gold Mine Enterprise Optimisation (EO) - Business Optimisation Consultant

Assisted the client to determine where they need to focus, to put their business in a better financial position. Various different mechanisms were looked at in order to do this: Increasing/ decreasing plant inputs (different plants), Increasing/ decreasing mining rates, Increasing/ decreasing size of the mine, Cut-off grade and stockpile behaviors analysed. This was done by using advanced optimisation techniques and algorithms (in partnership with Whittle Consulting)

Mining Lead of a team appointed by the potential lenders of this High Purity Alumina Project, to conduct a Due Diligence on a BFS that was done. We were able to advise the client (lender) on this investment and point out potential risks.

Nkomati Mine LOM FY2020 - Mining Reviewer

With the Nickel price much lower than when the Life of Mine was previously updated, it became apparent that there is a need for intelligent optimisation, phasing and production scheduling to give the mine a positive business case. This project is still ongoing.

Strategic Assessment for Yandera Copper PFS - Mining Engineer/ Business Optimisation Consultant

Brought onboard the project to identify ways in which value can be added to the asset to yield a positive NPV (at a point when the project struggled to achieve a positive NPV). Various improvement mechanisms were identified (Pit phases, Mining sequence, Final pit sizes etc.) and discussed with the team and the client that made a very large contribution to the NPV upliftment of the project. The result was that the project indicated a very attractive NPV, which has put the owner in a favoured position to go out to market to sell or find funding to build the mine.
Vedanta Resources Konkola Copper Mines LOM Studies - Mining Lead/ Project Manager

This is known as the world’s wettest mine (+-400ML/s of water running into the mine from various sources), which bring a host of complications to the team onsite. We were tasked to determine ways in which the client could ramp up from 2Mtpa to 6Mtpa. Our team achieved this by developing innovative (outside the box) solutions in which we were able to reduce capital & operating costs, pump out the enormous amounts of water, increase production and produce a significant NPV upliftment. We assisted the client with early works, which guided them towards implementing these solutions.
